London wedding brings together who’s who of Pakistan

LONDON: The wedding ceremony of the scions of two prominent Pakistani families brought together the who’s who of Pakistan from both the home country and Britain.


Syed Abid Hussain Imam, son of politicians Abida Hussain and Fakhr Imam, married Farah Pervez, daughter of Sabiha Qasim and Sir Anwar Pervez, the billionaire British-Pakistani retail tycoon.


The wedding ceremony held in the grand setting of the Natural History Museum was attended by key figures from British public and social life as well as notable Pakistanis, many of them close relatives of the groom who had travelled from Pakistan especially for the wedding.


Guests, many of them Pakistani politicians and businessmen, mingled freely at the champagne reception and enjoyed light banter, not omitting to talk about Pakistani politics.


Former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Zameer Chaudhry, Dawood Pervez, Sanam Bhutto, Anatol Leiven, ambassador Dennis Kux, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Vali Nasr and many British parliamentarians attended the reception.


Farah Pervez is a graduate from Britain’s Oxford University while Abid Imam is a Yale graduate, now teaching at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).


The young couple got engaged here last year after knowing each other for a year. In a colourful ceremony that followed, speeches were made from both sides and vows of love, marital bliss and unity were exchanged.


The couple have decided to live in Lahore . Abid regaled the guests with his speech and promised to remain devoted to his beloved wife and how he will take care of his London born and bred wife in Lahore. Farah’s brother Dawood Pervez read out a speech on how dear Farah was to the extended Sir Pervez family and how sorely she will be missed while in Pakistan but also the fact that she looked forward to joining her new family in Lahore.


Those who attended from Abida Hussain and Fakhr Imam’s side included Faisal Imam and Hena Babar Ali and their daughter Mubarik, Mr and Mrs Yawar Ali, Mrs Sultanat Bokhari, Umme Imam and Sughra Imam, Jugnu Mohsin and Ali Sethi, Zehra and Murtaza Ali, Moni Mohsin and Shehzad Ghaffar, Nighat Saeed Khan, Kamal and Saniya Shah, and other relatives. Friends who attended with the barat were Dr Ayesha Jalal, Mr and Mrs Vali Nasr, Fauzia Rashid, and Sanam Bhutto amongst others.


Those from London included Younis Sheikh, Arshad Chaudhry, Muzaffar Chowdry, Lord Nazir Ahmed, Lord Gulam Noon, Brigadier Imtiaz, Shaukat Aziz, Wajid Shamsul Hassan, Farooq Suterwala, Hatim Suterwala, Qamar Raza, Dr Ashraf Chohan, Adalat Chaudhry, Akhlaq Bhatti, Barrister Iftikhar Ahmed, Begum Zarina Wajid, Romana Chohan and many others.
